December 13th, 2006
The organization of the Annual Spring Fundraiser is underway. Members have
been asked to recommend any suitable venues for the occasion. Both the
Museum of Fine Arts and the Baside Expo Center (in conjunction with the New
England Flower Show) were mentioned as possibilities.
Report of October
11th, 2006
The Annual Meeting was held in September for the first time this year. It
had previously been held in the summer. Attendance was very strong and we
had a terrific speaker in John Drew, President of the World Trade Center,
Boston. We need volunteers to help with the March Fundraiser.
Report of June 14th, 2006
The Annual Fundraiser at the Museum of Science raised over $16,000. toward
our contribution efforts. The Annual Meeting will take place in September.
Nominations will be solicited at the July & August meetings.

Warehouse has changed its name to Tech Networks of Boston.

Wally
Stevens of Slade Gorton will be retiring at the end of the month and the
company is asking Newmarket members to drop off notes or remembrances
for inclusion in a book.

The 7th annual Newmarket Business Association Charity
Fundraiser will be held at the Museum of Science on Wednesday, April 5th
at 6pm. Please plan to attend and invite guests. We are seeking
sponsorships for this event and donations for the live and silent

The public affairs committee will be meeting with a local film-maker about
making a documentary to tell the story of the Newmarket-Mason School
partnership and the Mason’s transition to a pilot school. The Public
Affairs committee is also making preparations for our August meeting which
will be a special event at Jimmy’s Harborside.

12th report 2004The
South End News published an excellent feature story on the Newmarket
Business Association. Copies of the article were distributed to members at
the meeting. Because of the positive experience of doing this article, The
South End News indicated a willingness to do an ongoing series explaining
more about the Newmarket Business Association. The Public Affairs committee
is planning to continue the great Public Relations by getting the story out
about the success of the Mason School partnership with the Newmarket
Business Association. The Public Affairs committee is also making
preparations for our June annual meeting.

14th report 2004
The Gala fundraiser took place on March 24th at Anthony’s Pier 4;
it was a fitting tribute to Charlie and Nick Georgenes former owners of the
Victoria Restaurant and founders of the Newmarket Business Association.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino was the keynote speaker and students from the
Mason School gave a spirited performance. Thank you to everyone who made
this event such a success!

events. The charity fundraiser will take place on March 24th in a

event. Interested members are encouraged to join this committee that plans the
social events and coordinates the public relations for the NBA. The next
meeting will take place on November 18th at 8:30 am at the Victoria.

Night at the Boston Pops. This event will take place on Thursday, December 18th.
We will reserve block of tickets and you may buy yours in advance. This event
features a pre-concert reception at the Victoria and a bus to and from Symphony
Hall so parking is no problem.

website. The CERT® Coordination Center is part of the Software Engineering
Institute. The Software Engineering Institute is operated by Carnegie Mellon

Harbor cruise on July 23rd. Parking at the Umass Boston lot is free
and the cruise will depart from the UMass boat dock at 5:15. Please let Sue
Sullivan know how many tickets ($40 each) you will need so she can give the
steamboat operators the right count, and order the right amount of food for
dinner onboard the ship.

Association membership. The upcoming Boston Harbor cruise is a perfect occasion

The Newmarket
Night at Pops took place on December 27th. All 50 tickets available
for the concert sold out. Those lucky enough to attend reported that the
whole evening was terrific – the pre-concert reception at the Victoria, the Paul
Revere transportation to and from Symphony Hall and the seats and music were
great! This great experience means that NBA Night at Pops will undoubtedly
become an annual holiday event!

Byron Rushing. In January, Sal DeMasi will become our representative due to the
redistricting.

August 14th report 2002
The Public Affairs committee did a superb job
on the arrangements for our annual meeting held on July 16th at the
new location of Suffolk Construction. Mayor Menino was the keynote speaker at
this special event where he announced that $125,000 has been earmarked for
improvement to the newmarket neighborhood.
There were 360 visitors to the website,
www.newmarketboston.org during the month of July. The website features a
story about Waldo Bros, a Newmarket business adjacent to the site of the MBTA
Silverline Bus maintenance facility that is under construction.
There will be no Oktoberfest meeting this
year. There will be a major membership push after Labor Day leading up to
another big event planned for December.

The breakfast fundraiser for Mayor Menino hosted by friends (not the NBA itself)
took place yesterday morning at the Victoria. The event was well attended and
gave members a chance to speak individually with Mayor Menino. The Mayor spoke
briefly and reiterated his support for the small business community of Boston.
He has been helpful to the concerns of the Newmarket Business Association and
his Backstreets Program focuses on the needs of our members.

Clifford Park:
After ten
years of effort, the Park is being rebuilt!
The walking path is almost done. The
tot lot is being installed while this meeting is taking place.
There will even be a flagpole.
A grand
opening ceremony will be scheduled soon.
August 9th report
The Mardi Gras party held at Citizens Bank and the Tall Ships Cruise on Boston
Harbor were well-attended successful events.
Thank you to all who helped out!
The membership drive has
brought in nineteen new members, bringing our total membership close to 200
businesses. The new stationery has
the Newmarket website on it. If you
have not checked out the website recently, it can be found at www.
newmarketboston.org, and it includes links to City offices as well as member
companies.
If there is enough interest,
the Newmarket Business Association will offer baseline seminars on how to use
the internet.
Clifford Park:
The three baseball diamonds
are just about done. The entrance
and tot lot and memorial to Buster Carmine are being landscaped.
The playground across from the mason School is being redone, new trees
have been planted, and the walking/jogging path is almost done.
The renovation of this park has been ten years in process with continuous
effort by Charles Georgenes to make it a reality.

there will be an event to launch the refurbished Clifford Park.
It will be a cook-out with a tent in Clifford Park.
The Mayor, Commissioner of Parks, Mason School parents and kids, and, of
course, Newmarket Business Association members and their employees will all be

On Wednesday,
May 24, the annual cleanup will take place with volunteers from the Sheriff’s
department, AGAR, ISD, Citizens Bank, and South Bay Center.
On Tuesday,
June 6, the graduating class of the Mason School will have dinner at the
Victoria. There will be 24-26
students attending. Each student
will receive a book that he or she can read and then donate to the Mason School
library. Please donate books for
this event.

The Spring Event
Mardi Gras Party was a great success! Turnout was high due to the location of the event at the
Citizens Bank branch in the heart of Newmarket.
At the June annual meeting, Catherine Minehan, the head of the Federal
Reserve Bank, will be our speaker. The
new Newmarket signs are in place and they look great! The Public Affairs committee will focus on putting more
information on the Newmarket website. A
thank you letter is being sent to Kathy Kottardis for all of her past assistance
to the NBA.
