The NEW Clifford
Park is here!!! After many years of hard work and perseverance on the part of
Charlie Georgenes and our Neighborhood Outreach Committee, the Park has
been fully renovated and is truly a place of beauty.
Almost
five years ago our Neighborhood Outreach Committee and some of our
residential neighbors met with Paul McCaffrey of the Boston Parks &
Recreation Dept. to talk about the possibility of fixing up the Park which
was in need of a lot of updating. The
wheels started turning, and sometimes went forward and sometimes stood
still, but in the end, The Parks Dept. found the money to budget almost
$750,000 for the renovation of Clifford Park.
The work on the park was completed over this past year, and
includes a new playground, a tot lot, new infields on all of the
ballfields and a walking path.
On
Tuesday, May 10th, crowds of people, including 150 students
from The Samuel Mason Elementary School, were on hand for the dedication
of The Park by Mayor Thomas Menino. Of
course, these included many members of the NBA.
The school children had a great time playing in the playground and
are looking forward to playing there during school recess time.
The
NBA extends a warm thanks to Paul McCaffrey for setting this renovation
into motion, to Commissioner Justine Liff, for finding the money to make
it happen, and to Mayor Menino for his continued commitment to the
Newmarket area.
We also thank our own members who worked tirelessly toward this
goal; Charlie Georgenes, Charlie Killian, Tim Ready, and Karen Toney.
